Check the thermostat

• Is your thermostat set in the HEAT position?
• Is the temperature setting on the thermostat set higher than the thermostat’s indoor temperature?
• Try turning the fan switch to “ON” to force the furnace to start blowing air.

Is everything on?

• Is the power turned on for your furnace?
  • At the thermostat, turn the fan to ON. The fan should run when power is being supplied to the furnace.
• Did the circuit breakers in the circuit breaker box (or electrical panel) trip to the OFF position?
  • Check the SSU light switch on the gray box located at the furnace to make sure it is in the ON position.

Is there proper airflow?

• Have you changed your filter?
  A blocked filter can cause your unit to shut down due to lack of proper airflow.
• Are the air registers (supply or return ducts) plugged?
  If routine filter changes have not been completed and your vents and registers are completely clogged, this can greatly impair the furnace’s air flow.

Check the gasline

• Verify that the gas is turned on. You can check this by examining the shut-off valve which is outside.
• Another easy way to tell if the gas is on and working properly is by turning on another gas burning appliance, like the stove.
